Last November Chicago rap vet Rich Jones released one of the smoothest hip-hop records of the year with The Shoulder You Lean On, a twenty-minute project produced by J. Kelr (whose work you may know). One of the standouts on the album was his dreamy duet with fellow Chicagoan-you-should-know Nnamdi Ogbonnaya, whose cool falsettos and rhythmic diatribes feel right at home on a Jones/Kelr collab.
Today we’re getting an extremely necessary video component for the track, which sees the pair free-falling with admirable complacency after their invisible military chopper combusts miles above the earth. With visuals appropriately helmed by Someoddpilot, the video manages to reflect the track’s fun-yet-somewhat-dire energy. “I wanted the video for ‘Dreaming’ to be something that was playful, but also reflected the gravity of the record,” Jones explains. “Why not put us in a crisis then?”
Of his collaboration with rapper and multi-instrumentalist Ogbonnaya, Jones continues: “Was super great to work with Nnamdi on this especially since he brings a really fun energy to the table whenever we’ve linked up to record or otherwise. You’ll have to decide for yourself whether or not we made it out alive!”
The Shoulder You Lean On is out now. You can order it here.
