Divino Niño released a colorful, summery album last week, and today they’re releasing a colorful, summery video for “Flamingo,” Foam’s sexy centerpiece. The brief clip takes the quartet back to their native Colombia with an animated depiction of a mountainous, coastal terrain lined with fruit (froot?) and flamingos blasting cigs.
“When we first talked about the video, [guitarist Camilo Medina] said he wanted it to be centered around a ‘sad flamingo bad boy’ and the rest was up to me,” explains director/animator Jake Armstrong of the unique imagery. “I took that idea and tried to make the end goal him finding that one thing that would cheer him up—and that just happened to be a magical mango ‘froot.’”
It’s a goofy concept, for sure, but not without a tinge of sadness: “I wanted to emphasize his loneliness by having him in deserted streets and boardwalks, and only running across one other character—who happens to be munching on a big ol’ fruit with a grin across his face,” Armstrong concludes. Ah, froot—antidote of lonely hearts, purveyor of big ol’ grins.
