Last year, Montreal new wavers Mundy’s Bay announced their arrival on the Pure Noise roster with a sleek three-song EP, introducing themselves to a new audience as a synth-toting dream pop collective to counter the label’s penchant for aggressive punk. Today they’re announcing their first full-length release through the label, doubling down on their energetic noise pop landing somewhere between the driving shoegaze of Westkust and the blissful pop of Alvvays.
The four-piece are sharing the news of Lonesome Valley along with a video for its first single, an endearingly lo-fi clip for “Goodbye.” Its bright visual matches the chipper instrumentation of the track, despite the lyrics’ somber subject matter. “[It’s] a song about someone leaving this world but becoming present in ways not physical,” vocalist Esther Mulders shares, before explaining the band’s recording process. “We write all of our music together, as this is our creative process. We try to keep our writing style as collaborative as possible, because we believe our songs benefit from us learning and growing together as musicians.”
Lonesome Valley is out March 13 via Pure Noise Records—you can pre-order it here. Check out the video for “Goodbye,” and read on for the band’s upcoming dates with Hunny and Bay Faction.
