The Strokes

Last night The Strokes took to the stage in Durham, New Hampshire to support presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders with a rousing rendition of their kiboshed 2001 single “New York City Cops,” much to the chagrin of Durham, New Hampshire cops. Also, at some point, they apparently announced the title of their forthcoming sixth studio album, as well as unveiled a video for its first single.

The New Abnormal drops April 10 via Cult/RCA Records, with the surprisingly ambient “At the Door” serving as the record’s lead single. The pulsing synths and Julian Casablancas’ inimitable vocals also get animated with a Jason McDonald–directed visual, a tragic retelling of Marriage Story (2019) as a children’s sci-fi short film made for Fox Kids (1990-2002).

OK, but seriously, this “New York City Cops” thing—the way he turns to the officer after delivering the line “They ain’t too smart,” the way he points to the officer’s badge and tries to suppress a giggle…just…*chef’s kiss*.

Watch the video for “At the Door,” as well as their full set from last night (they come onstage around the 2:22:00 mark), including another new song called “Bad Decisions” and a cover of “Burning Down the House,” below, and read on for a handful of tour dates.
