Look, I’ve been saying this for two years now: boygenius should be a four-piece with a pop-punk icon in the lineup to give the project a little more edge. OK, I’ve never actually said that, or thought it, or even considered it, but now that it’s a reality it’s totally something I can get behind. The long-teased guest spot on the second solo EP from Paramore’s Hayley Williams dropped today, and it’s a surprisingly upbeat five minutes of wispy harmonies.
“Roses/Lotus/Violet/Iris,” originally teased on International Women’s Day, sees the foursome teaming up on a track about “wilted women,” evidently each assigning themselves a floral super-heroic pseudonym as modeled in the song title. Williams explained in an Instagram post that the track is being shared in lieu of the full EP she’d originally planned on dropping this week. “Just like everyone else, I feel a lot of anxiety right now,” she wrote, promising to release the songs from Petals for Armor II one-by-one. “It feels like a huge weight to put out five songs all at once.”
Meanwhile, her debut LP is still set for release on May 8 via Atlantic Records. You can pre-order that here, and stream the latest from the HW camp below.
