LISTEN: Touché Amoré Share New Single “Deflector” Ahead of Tour with La Dispute
The Ross Robinson–produced track from the post-hardcore collective takes them out of their comfort zone.
It’s understandable that we haven’t heard much new music from Touché Amoré in the last three years, considering the emotional energy the collective exerted on 2016’s passionate Stage Four. But with their impending tour alongside fellow post-hardcore icons La Dispute, the LA collective are properly releasing last year’s single “Green” as a 7-inch with a brand new track entitled “Deflector.”
While the song continues TA’s traditional formula of Jeremy Bolm’s scratchy voice competing with panicked instrumentation to deliver self-reflective lyrics about a fragile mental state—“I’m not comfortable,” he bellows, “I rarely am”—it still marks a step in a new direction production-wise.
“This time around, we need to take a chance with the unfamiliar, someone who would take us out of our comfort zone,” Bolm said about the track, which perhaps not coincidentally is literally about testing the water before diving in. “Enter Ross Robinson. A man who knows no comfort zone. I followed his career all through my youth to being a young adult.”
The Deflector 7-inch drops September 27 via Epitaph, and you can pre-order it here. Catch the band on tour with La Dispute and Empath in November after they finish up their European dates alongside labelmates Deafheaven.
