Sometimes I forget all the creative projects David Byrne lists on his resume. He's not only an influential musician and songwriter, but an author, a performer, filmmaker, etc. etc. etc. Most recently, he popped up in the trailer for Amy Schumer's forthcoming Hulu series Life & Beth.
The show centers around Schumer's character who's having a mid-life crisis with a plateauing career and stale relationship. She goes on soul-searching journeys to figure out what her next vocation should be. In one scene, Byrne plays her doctor and delivers hefty insight: "Sometimes our mental pain manifests in our bodies." That's it. That's the only glimpse we get of his character, but it's a heavy line. And, of course, Byrne says it with such a friendly and matter-of-fact tone that it makes me wish he was my primary care provider.
Life & Beth, which also stars Micheal Cera, premieres March 18 on Hulu. Check out the trailer below.
