Australian musician Hatchie understands how to meld shoegaze's moody darkness and new wave's pop glimmers. Her music is like a diamond in the rough, refractions of light buried in a hole of soot. She returned with her first new music of 2022 last month—the revelatory single "Quicksand," which announced her sophomore album Giving the World Away.

Today, she's shared the album's title track. It's built upon a strutting bass and anxious keyboards, accompanied by intense queries on power and desire. "If you tore up your thoughts and put them in motion, would you still feel desire?" goes one lyric.

"'Giving the World Away’ is about being gentle with yourself in the throes of depression,” Hatchie said. “We made a simple lyric video with analogue effects to let the lyrics of the song speak for themselves.”

Giving the World Away is out April 22 via Secretly Canadian. Pre-order the album here.
