It's been over three years since we last heard from innovative songwriter and violin virtuoso Sudan Archives. Today, she's returned with her latest music since 2019's Athena, which is an intricately layered single called "Home Maker." Beginning slowly with an ambient hum interrupted by breathy organs and shining brass, the song later opens up as Sudan Archives eases us into her new chapter.

Over the course of the single, she reveals small pockets of varying sound—pearly piano, tinny, harp-like plucks, a jazzy breakbeat—like detailed fabric swatches before she unveils the full masterpiece. Eventually a deep, buzzy synth curls with her satiny delivery. With quick ease, she details the magic of her home, her longing for a lover, and an embrace of her badass aura. "Don't you feel at home when you're with me?" she inquires toward the track's end. It feels more like a fact than a question.

"It took nesting—building a home, investing in partners that were worth my investment—to shake my anxiety and depression," she said in comment regarding her move from Cincinnati to LA. "For me, homemaking is a service to mental health and coping with fear and isolation. This song is about the effort put into making a relationship work and giving love a place to live."

The single comes with a fun video directed by Jocelyn Anquetil in which Sudan Archives frolics and dances around a furniture store. The visual emphasizes the significance of nesting and finding comfort in one's home—an important refuge for play, vulnerability, sensuality, and emotional honesty.
