Since the release of 2018's so sad so sexy, an appearance from Swedish pop musician Lykke Li has been rare. She was featured on two tracks from Mark Ronson's 2019 LP Late Night Feelings (including the title track), released her first single in Swedish in 2020 titled "BRON," and last year shared a haunting cover of "I Will Survive." Today, she's continued her steady reminders that she's still creating with the single "NO HOTEL."
There's something about the track that feels familiar, like it's served as the soundtrack for a pivotal cinematic moment where the protagonist looks back on glowing memories with tears in her eyes. "’Cause in the back of my mind / I’m in the back of your car / So now baby rewind / Take me back," she sings over hushed fuzz and a subtle, reverby guitar, crickets chirping in the distance and echoey backing vocals supporting her like ghosts ushering her onward. Despite the minimal production, which was worked on with Björn Yttling, the track is filled with painstaking images like: "It’s cracking dawn / Street soaking wet / I’m on your doorstep / I’m not losing yet."
