Sleater-Kinney guitarist/Wild Flag lead singer/Portlandia star Carrie Brownstein is following in the recent footsteps of another acclaimed rock goddess and releasing her memoir, Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl, on October 27.
Publisher Penguin Books says the memoir promises to be a “deeply personal and revealing narrative of Brownstein’s life in music, from ardent fan to pioneering female guitarist to comedic performer and luminary in the independent rock world.” Brownstein’s memoir, which has reportedly been three years in the making, will no doubt further satisfy fans already revitalized by the band’s reunion and the release of their latest album No Cities to Love.
Brownstein claims the memoir will deal mainly with her time in SK but not delve too deep into her career on Portlandia, so Feminist Bookstore fans will have to wait for Fred Armisen’s eventual autobiography.
