After demonstrating his vocal range with Pentatonix for over half a decade, Avi Kaplan set off on a solo career that’s lately seen him comfortably furthering the folk sounds trailblazed by artists like Lee Hazlewood, Ray LaMontagne, and Shooter Jennings—the latter of whom produced Kaplan’s latest album Floating on a Dream, which arrives late next month.
Back in February, “All Is Well” presented an early hint at what we could expect from the record, as Kaplan’s gruff baritone harmonized with Joy Williams on the dark-country single. It’s this track that he brought to his “Neighborhoods” session filmed on a porch in rainy Nashville, where the single takes a slightly lighter tone to match its title (“Even though it’s real cold,” Kaplan notes ahead of the performance).
