A couple months ago, Pusha T dropped "Diet Coke," a single in collaboration with Kanye West. It was the first concrete look at Pusha's follow-up to 2018's Daytona, which he's been teasing for a while. Today we get another glimpse of what Push has been up to with the single "Neck & Wrist" that features JAY-Z and Pharrell. The new song's quaalude-induced beat, produced by Pharrell, contains a spindly melody and lethargic drum taps as the other two rappers volley between the subjects of luxuries, drugs, and the rap hierarchy. Pusha tweeted about this song: "We call this 'God level rap for dummies…'"
In a recent interview, Pusha T explained his relationship with JAY-Z, clarifying he'd never want to compete with him, but aspires to impress him. "I write my verse, then give him my verse, and be like, ‘Can you please add something to this?’" Push said. "The battle for me is him hearing it and saying, ‘Yeah,’ because if it’s not that impressive, he might be like, ‘Eh, I don’t need to do it.’ Or, ‘This ain’t the one.’ That’s my competition.”
He added about working with HOV, “You can only say the type of shit he says when you’ve reached that level of success... I reach out to him because I know it’s something that I can’t say. It’s dope, and it should be inspiring when you hear it. To say some of the most outlandish shit, and it actually be true, that should be aspirational to all rap artists.”
After the track's release, Pusha T announced his new album's title, IT'S ALMOST DRY, and a 12-date tour in support of the new music. Listen to "Neck & Wrist" below, and expect more details on the new LP soon.
