Last week, LA-based dream-pop duo No Swoon debuted their sophomore LP Take Your Time, which saw Tasha Abott and Zack Nestel-Patt teaming up with mixing engineer Chris Coady to smooth the band’s sound and shape each track into the same light-and-dreamy texture he also provided for recent releases from Beach House and Amen Dunes. In fact the topic of dreams even comes up in the album track “Beside,” as the lyrics recall a dream which “ended with meandering into a cave that turned out to be the home to a cult where everyone looked the same and seemed very ‘happy.’”
It’s this eerie track No Swoon performed for their “Neighborhoods” session in a backyard in sunny LA, with Abott on guitar and Nestel-Patt playing dual synths. Most of the recording’s hazy texture remains intact, with only the contrast of the hard-hitting drums proving absent in the live performance. Check out the clip below—and if you’re in sunny LA, make sure to catch the band’s release show next Monday at The Echo.
