Have you ever gotten into an argument with someone over who should take the window seat? Wouldn't it be nice if it worked out that you didn't have to fight over it, but that this person actually enjoyed sitting in the middle seat? This match made in Greyhound bus heaven is the kind of relationship that's conjured on "Window Seat," a balmy mix of rockabilly guitars, shuffling drums, and post-punky bass from Toronto-based group Nutrients. "I like the window, you like the middle / The aisle seat / Well, fingers crossed it stays empty," goes one lyric on the new single.

It might sound a bit strange on paper, but Nutrients make the delicate weaving of disparate sounds feel like the breezy rush of outside air diffusing the humid heat of a car as one rolls the window down. It's soft rock for the influx of spring. "This is a quick guitar pop song that harkens back to songs Nutrients used to write," primary songwriter Taylor Teeple shares. "The guitar interplay is actually just two guitars playing this one-string riff at the same time with some minor deviations. The riff kinda sounds emo-adjacent almost."

This single is the first we've heard from Nutrients in a few years. The last release from the newly minted quintet—recently adding multi-instrumentalist Ben Fukuzawa to the group that also includes pianist Lulia Ciobanu, bassist Sean McKee, and guitarist Will Hunter—was 2019's self-titled album.
