The third and latest single Australian producer Inkswel has shared from his forthcoming concept album The Snagglepuss: Chasing Infinity is a unique take on dub, repurposing the touchstone sounds of the storied genre into the digital age. But that’s not the only thing that’s appealing about the track—“Mystical Magic” features the last vocal recording reggae legend Lee “Scratch” Perry ever put to tape before passing away late last year.

“When I initially contacted Lee and his management, the process was quite quick,” Inkswel recalls. “A week later, out of nowhere, we got the news of his passing. It was very surreal, and I ended up sitting on the vocal files for a few months before actually working up the courage to put the creative energy into the song—I really wanted to do right by the vocal, especially since it was one of the last vocals he ever recorded. I ended up contacting my good friend Elf and we finished the song together…a truly spiritual experience.”

In spite of all its baggage, the track—which also features vocals from Melbourne-via-LA rapper Elf Tranzporter—is a fun electro-psych romp through dub tradition. Check it out below.
