Charli XCX has been very generous lately. On top of releasing Crash, the follow-up to her brilliant 2020 pandemic album how i'm feeling now, she's also dropped four bonus tracks, the era-bouncing video for "Used to Know Me," and merch that includes a faux patent leather paddle and one-hitter. But if that wasn't enough for us greedy fans, you can get a glimpse of a new Charli song in the trailer for the forthcoming A24 film Bodies Bodies Bodies.
The Halina Reign–directed horror-comedy stars Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Myha'la Herrold, Chase Sui Wonders, Rachel Sennott, Lee Pace, and Pete Davidson, and the press release describes the film as such: "When a group of rich 20-somethings plan a hurricane party at a remote family mansion, a party game goes awry in this fresh and funny look at backstabbing, fake friends, and one party gone very, very wrong." It sounds like the perfect film for XCX to soundtrack, considering her most recent project featured plenty of blood-soaked firecracker pop that documented complex relationships.
Her song is called "Hot Girl," and it features a sultry delivery of the lyrics "I'm a hot girl / Pop girl / Rich Girl / You just wanna know me," over a bass-heavy trap beat. The club hit wavers in and out between screams and Millennial/Gen-Z declarations ("You fucking trigger me," "You are so toxic," "You're always gaslighting me"). Seems like bloody, exciting fun!
