Along similar lines as the “first thought, best thought” method of creation, sometimes the best music comes together as the result of an impromptu in-studio jam session rather than through weeks of tweaks and rewrites. Such is the case of the chilled-out new single from LA’s Asiatica, which merges instrumental layers improvised by the neo-soul band before vocalist Asia freestyled a vent session over top. Recorded in the legendary Sound City Studios, the track sees each of the band members hitting their groove with a confidence matched only by Asia’s own newfound sense of self-realization.
“At the time, I felt very scared to speak up for myself in any situation,” she shares. “I felt like a coward, but at the same time, I knew why. I was tired of being spoken over, having my words twisted, and being misunderstood. So I expressed the way I felt the only way I knew how. The words just poured out of me because it was something I’ve been needing to say for a long time. Stephan added his sweet keys to it and our friend Brooke Magidson added a supportive guitar line and the song finally felt like how I needed it to feel.”
