In many ways, the trajectories of Mudhoney and Meat Puppets have paralleled each other over the years. The former was among the PNW groups pioneering grunge at the tail end of the ’80s, while the latter were helping to define the cowpunk sound down south in Arizona since the early '80s. It makes sense, then, to see them share a stage at a West Coast hub like San Diego, where they met last Thursday for an intimate night at the city’s Soda Bar ahead of both groups’ separate voyages to Europe later in the fall.
