Fontaines D.C. are in the midst of a tour schedule that reflects the wide-ranging impact their recent LP Skinty Fia had across the world, with nearly non-stop dates across Europe and the UK bleeding into a victory lap across the US this fall. In the midst of all the chaos, the band have revealed a playful new music video today for their track “Roman Holiday,” which manages to incorporate familiar imagery from both Reservoir Dogs and Toy Story in its intro.
But rather than pulling from the ’90s, video director Sam Taylor cites 1970s heist films as the primary inspiration for the visual, calling it “the result of attempting to challenge the monarchy and watching too much of The Rockford Files.” The heist here being the kidnapping of a giant teddy bear, the grainy, ’00s-era camcorder-captured images counter the inherently serious nature of the lyrics and twanging post-punk guitar which dominates much of Skinty Fia.
