While it’s been 14 years since Leona Naess released her last album, the NYC-based songwriter who came up alongside The Strokes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs has kept busy—among other things, parenthood became a major focus since then. In fact that’s a subject that permeates her return to music on Brood X, her recently released follow up to 2008’s Thirteens.
To usher in the record’s release, Naess brought three of the album’s tracks—lead single “Call Me by Your Name,” “Name Across the Sky,” and “The Beginning”—to her “Neighborhoods” set filmed on a front stoop in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Greenpoint. Backed by acoustic guitar and a minimal string section, it’s a small-but-powerful orchestra to match Naess’ subtly captivating lyrics. Check out the performance below.
