Yesterday, on America's holiday ostensibly celebrating our independence, Killer Mike released his first solo music since 2012's R.A.P. Music. The single is titled "RUN" and it features an opening monologue by Dave Chappelle and a verse by Young Thug. It also comes with an Adrian Villagomez–directed video that equates living in America to being constantly at war. It's a poignant message about how we're still fighting for freedom and truth every day.
In the introductory monologue, Chappelle comments that Killer Mike's work toward freedom and justice is like running on the beaches of Normandy, fighting and surviving. "You're just as heroic as the people who stormed the beach," he says. "So what's your excuse? 'I'm not good enough. I did something wrong. I'm not perfect.' Nobody asked anyone to be perfect. We just askin' people to be honest. You're a leader. Lead."
Killer Mike also shared a behind the scenes video for "RUN." He breaks down the opening lyrics: "God don't like ugly / I ain't one to judge." He explains: "I can't judge your actions. But what I do know is I can give you an account of mine."
