Coming out of the turbulent personal experiences that lent themselves to Summer Cannibals’ last album Can’t Tell Me No, vocalist Jessica Boudreaux was immediately met with the implosion of the record label her band was signed to and a cancer diagnosis within the span of a year—one which also, of course, delivered the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet her new solo EP I Think My Heart Loves to Break sees the songwriter coming out the other end mostly unscathed, delivering four pop cuts experimenting in recordings outside of the context of guitar-centric music.

Yet she returns to the instrument for her “Neighborhoods” set filmed in Milwaukie, Oregon, a city on the outskirts of her home base of Portland. Isolating the sensual guitar that weaves through “Loves to Break,” this live version of the track is as spacious as the green outdoor landscape Boudreaux chose as the backdrop for the performance. Watch it below.
