Last month, Martin Courtney unleashed his first collection of songs outside of his main project—the benevolent patriarchs of the jangle pop renaissance Real Estate—since 2015 with Magic Sign, an album that replicates his band’s penchant for casual-beachside-hang listenings before easing the listener into vivid scenes of Courtney’s childhood—and, in its most affecting moments, our own.
It was this batch of songs he pulled from for his recent “Neighborhoods” session filmed in Hudson Valley in New York, where he brought album cuts “Corncob” and “Sailboat” to life with his acoustic guitar in a tranquil backyard setting. Check out the performance below, and revisit our review of Magic Sign here.
