LA rapper Maxo shared a new single today called "48" that features Pink Siifu and was produced by Madlib. It's the first we've heard from Maxo since his 2019 debut album Lil Big Man, and it comes with a video directed by Vincent Haycock, which was filmed on the the streets of Los Angeles.

"48" opens with Morse-code beeps and eerie gusts of wind, with haunting wind chimes and phantasmic bass following suit. Maxo begins asking: "Do you hear my calling? Do you hear my screaming?" In the accompanying visual, Maxo stands on a street corner looking around, lost. Then something incredibly disturbing happens: He disappears. At first, it might seem that he's invisible as his clothes wrangle about, as if he's fighting not to fade away completely. To no prevail, his shirt soon floats away with the wind and a pair of legless pants remain. "Can you answer my calls? We out here dying / My brothers is dying, my sisters is dead," he sings as the gripping black-and-white scene unfolds. "I'm tryna have hope," he repeats before he's lost completely.

The beeps continue as "48" enters its second half, which features Maxo and Siifu wrestling with harsh realities. Both song and visual are a peek at what Maxo's been working on since his debut. His forthcoming album Even God Has a Sense of Humor is coming soon via Def Jam Recordings.

For now, watch "48" below.
