Identical twins Wyatt and Fletcher Shears, who release music as The Garden, have been part of the Los Angeles DIY scene for over a decade. They make playful and punchy rock music that often leans toward bizarre or jarring while always keeping things interesting. Their new album Horseshit on Route 66 is coming out September 8, and today, they've shared their latest single from it, "Chainsaw the Door."

“If life presents you with a closed door, then you chainsaw through it” the band explained. “It might take a while but it’s quicker than using an axe on it. Once you get through the door there will be more obstacles, but at least you knocked it down.” Over caffeinated guitars and a thin, rapid drum machine beat, The Garden express their interest in annihilating any hindrances—such as a closed door—that are holding them back.

You might ask, "Why a chainsaw?" Well, many of the tracks off the group's forthcoming album were inspired by scary stories the Shears read as kids and their love for the supernatural. Their message brings to mind a melding of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Shining's "Here's Johnny!" moment. The Garden make clear there's a hint of horror to what lies beyond, even though they're eager to break down boundaries: "The only question now is what's on the other side." Only one way to find out!
