Last February, former HOLYCHILD frontperson Elizabeth Nistico introduced her new project Revenge Wife with a synth-heavy single called “Earthquake,” along with an open letter to herself at the onset of this new chapter in her musical career as well as in her personal life. Today she’s returned with two new singles that she reveals will be included in her yet-to-be-titled debut record, arriving some time next year.
Although sonically different, “DEATHWISH” and “Holiday” are “two sides of the same coin lyrically,” she shares, as the former recalls the influence of a muse while the latter details moving on from that individual. Both tracks were made with the Chicago-based artist McFabulous and display a move toward Italo disco—a genre Nistico currently claims as a major influence.
“Besides lyrically being really honest, I think the production of these two new songs shows the new place I’m in right now,” she notes. “I was thinking the other day about how it’s impossible to make art that is not political. I am feeling crushed, and I have really been using music as a form of escapism lately. I want the song to be able to start and instantly transport me into a different world. I hope when someone puts on these songs they can feel far away on an island in the future with love all around them and there are shooting stars twinkling above.”
