Earlier this month, Emily Elbert released her first solo LP since 2018’s We Who Believe in Freedom. In the meantime she’s kept busy as a session musician, co-writer, and touring band member, with an impressive resume of collaborators including Gwen Stefani, Leon Bridges, Jacob Collier, and Jenny Lewis—which makes her new album Woven Together all the more personal as an autobiographical exploration completely removed from the group visions she’s contributed to over the years. “Making it felt process-oriented and exploratory, without any sense of capitalistic pressure—music for the sake of making something loving and true,” she shared ahead of its release.
With the album out now, Elbert took one of its tracks to Lisbon, Portugal, where she recently recorded a “Neighborhoods” session. “Inside Your Heart” sounds natural as an acoustic piece as it’s performed here, with Elbert’s deeply prodding confessional lyrics gently wandering into the darker corners of a romantic relationship.
