Brooklyn punks Weeping Icon have made a brilliant observation on their latest thrashing single "Pigs, Shit & Trash." Over crusty distortion and a menacing drumbeat, Lani Combier-Kapel screams: "Flies are attracted to pigs, shit, and trash." It gives a wonderfully pointed context for this culturally significant moment you may remember from a few years back, where a fly sat comfortably atop Mike Pence's colorless head of hair. On "Pigs, Shit & Trash," Weeping Icon nominate the fly as the new mascot for corruption and moral vacuity.

"I thought it was very fitting that a fly landed on top of Mike Pence’s head, right when he was talking some bullshit about race in America," Combier-Kapel said about the song, which was written during summer 2020 around the time the Presidential debates were taking place. "I loved that moment, that this fly just randomly shat and vomited on this guy's head (as flies are known to do to everything they land on). I started imagining this fly as some kind of antihero, claiming one tiny bit of revenge on national TV—a heroic villain attracted to pigs, shit, and trash."

The new single announces their forthcoming EP Ocelli that's out November 18 via Fire Talk. The forthcoming project is the follow-up to their 2019 self-titled debut. "Pigs, Shit & Trash" comes with a video directed by Alice Millar that features a fly-loving family as the stand-in for some of the most wasteful and menacing people to walk this earth.
