Years before teen sensations like Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Olivia Rodrigo became household names, '80s pop icons Tiffany and her once rival Debbie Gibson helped lay the foundation. It's been 35 years since a then 15-year-old Tiffany ruled the pop charts in 1987 with her cover of Tommy James and the Shondells' "I Think We're Alone Now," but she hasn't settled down, despite many highs and lows. After completing her “Shadows” tour last year, Tiffany recently unveiled plans for an album of the same name to follow up 2018’s Piece of Me LP. Inspired by the title track, Tiffany shares that the collection will be an examination of our inner selves. “Once we wrote the song ‘Shadows’ it began to make sense to use that as the title for the whole album, and the concept quickly became about the light and dark of our emotions,” she says, also noting that musically “it combines the fun of the ’80s with a modern twist and a punky pop vibe.”
Those influences certainly come through in the new single from Shadows titled “I Like the Rain,” which takes an upbeat, contemporary-rock approach to those ideas. “‘I Like The Rain’ is about owning your own dysfunction and the people who benefit from it,” she shares of the single, which recalls the soaring choruses of Sleater-Kinney between its fully rocking verses. “I think it will appeal to my existing fans,” she adds. “It combines rock and dance and gives a good flavor of the album and the modern production will hopefully give the new fans something to relate to. It signifies a cool new direction and sound.”
