NYC-based rapper MIKE announced a new album today called Beware of the Monkey that's coming out on December 21 via his label 10K. He's also shared the lead single "nuthin i can do is wrng" and a video directed by Ryosuke Tanzawa that shows MIKE taping the song in his home studio.
The single and recording-in-real-time visual continue MIKE's prolific introspective streak. Over a soulful sample—proclaiming "'Cause when I'm with you / Everything is right / Nothing I can do is wrong"—MIKE riffs about pushing himself further.
Beware of the Monkey is the follow-up to 2021's Disco!. According to a press release, the album's title references "a Chinese horoscope MIKE saw for his birth year (year of the Tiger) in a Chinese restaurant, which imparted that warning."
