Last month, Kelela returned from a years-long silence with new single "Washed Away." It was a slow-burning, gentle return that had her asking: "How's your heart?" Today she's back with another new song called "Happy Ending," which was produced by LSDXOXO with additional production from Bambii. "Inspired by a real life push and pull…cuz niggas be fakin lol," she said of the new song.

Whereas "Washed Away" was a spectral soundtrack for exploring earthly wonders, "Happy Ending" has Kelela maneuvering through dozens of dancing bodies on a bustling New York City dancefloor, as seen in the music video she co-directed with Alima Lee. Her vocals glide over high octane percussion: "The lights are flashing / You're in the back of my mind, baby / It's all in tact." She switches between mental and physical fantasy, dancing around finely dressed comrades at the club, glistening in glitter and sweat and the fantasy of another that plays out in her mind.
