Bassist, pop singer, and DJ Blu DeTiger has returned with an addictive new track called “Elevator,” a bubbly follow-up to her last single “Hot Crush Lover” released back in April. After touring as a bassist for Caroline Polachek and FLETCHER, DeTiger started writing, recording, and releasing music under her own name beginning with the track “In My Head” in 2019.
Now, still riding the momentum from her debut EP How Did We Get Here released last year, DeTiger is back again, carving out early-2010-esque pop songs with Top 40 hooks. In “Elevator,” her choruses are playful (“I go up, go down in my elevator / Don’t wanna talk right now / See you alligator”), while the verses are unique in how they each chronicle interwoven bits about dancing, night life, and unrequited romance. “‘Elevator’ is an upbeat, tongue in cheek way of expressing how I feel when I’m stuck in the elevator (of life),” she explained of the track. “It’s about moments when I’m down and need to be taken back up.”
Accompanying the single is a music video, which features DeTiger singing and plucking her bass guitar in a monochrome elevator. Numerous familiar faces join her over the course of the clip, including her brother Rex DeTiger, Rebecca Black, Alexander 23, Gavin Bennett of Bad Suns, Uffie, and influencer Vinnie Hacker, among others.
Along with her newest single, DeTiger is embarking on a string of tour dates in the US later this fall, including stops in Chicago, Boston, NYC, and LA. Watch the music video for “Elevator” below, and purchase tickets for DeTiger’s upcoming tour here.
