Clip Art makes attention-deficit kaleidoscopic pop. If you weren’t convinced by the upbeat complexity of their first single “Airborne Ranger,” just listen to the first couple bars of “South Bend” wherein the drummer—apparently on some of those awesome, creatively productive drugs—can’t for the life of him decide which beat to play, and switches rapidly from one to the other, all in perfect time. A flurry of xylophones whirl alongside periodic sci-fi sound effects while frontman Andy Rosenstein sings about failing in the city and moving away. But for all its quirks, “South Bend” still retains the identifiable soul of a great pop song.

Listen to the new track below, which is accompanied by a monochromatic montage of early 20th century footage.

Clip Art’s debut album Culler is out now.
