Trailblazing post-punk artist Gina Birch, most well-known as a co-founder of The Raincoats, is releasing her debut solo album next year. I Play My Bass Loud is coming out February 24 via Third Man Records, and the first look at the project comes via the lead single "Wish I Was You" that was co-written and co-produced by Killing Joke's Martin Glover (a.k.a. Youth) and features guitar from Thurston Moore. The accompanying video was directed by Birch's daughter Honey.

“The album distills my years of musical, political, and artistic life with these genre-breaking songs,” Birch shared about the album. “It’s a personal diary using sounds and lyrics, full of fun, rage, and storytelling.” The name for the record comes from making her sonic mark with her instrument: “I always thought, if I open my big bay window upstairs and play my bass, I’m not some groovy young rapper. I’m this old white woman playing my bass guitar out of my window. I just want to stick my head out and yell down the street: hell, I’m here, and I’m playing my bass loud!”
