On his latest single "Heavy Machine," Berlin-based musician Grimson captures the grueling transformation of a love turned steely. He details how an ex treats their counterpart like a cog in a machine as tinny guitars swell and deflate alongside hesitant drums chugging forward, but ready to be derailed at any moment. Toward the end, a thorny guitar solo unravels, spewing its wailing shards before Grimson's voice comes in gentle like a taming weed wacker.

The new single is a left turn from the Angelo De Augustine–leaning folk ballad "Set Gently." His follow-up not only captures the dark underbelly of a dissolving relationship, but explores his other musical influences such as Heatmiser, Radiohead, and black midi. “The song is very sincere, for sure, but I never like the idea of taking myself or the music too seriously," Grimson says. "This way-over-the-top solo seemed like a good way to keep things balanced—to find humor and rock 'n' roll in an otherwise completely emotionally vulnerable and angry song.”

"Heavy Machine" also comes with a video made in collaboration with Australian animator Kier Spilsbury. “Kier knows how to get great results from AI software," Grimson added. "She and I have been able to conjure this amazing stuff that fits into the Grimson animated world, and seems to push it even further by creating stuff that I physically can’t.”
