California’s Ultra Q released their sophomore EP Get Yourself a Friend last year, which leaned heavily into various genres including electro-punk, post-punk, and early-2000s alt-rock. Today, the group (consisting of Billie Joe Armstrong's youngest son Jakob, brothers Enzo and Chris Malaspina, and Kevin Judd) returns with a new single produced by Chris Coady (Beach House, Massive Attack, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) called "I Watched Them Go."

The track is built around quick-shifting hi-hats, angelic steam-puff synths, and Armstrong's yearning vocals. "I dream of your sight / A sudden look in your eyes," goes the opening line. "I saw an angel," he repeats, his slight whine tinged with awe and disbelief.

“‘I Watched Them Go” is Ultra Q’s first pop song," Armstrong said. "At the same time, though, I think that it represents everything that UQ is supposed to be. It’s catchy, it’s outrageous, it’s beautiful, but it lands just enough in left field to be unexpected for our fans. We think this is the perfect single because while it’s definitely extreme, it’ll find a home in our fans. Both old and new.”
