Bay Area artist Hannah van Loon, who makes music as Tanukichan, released her magnetic debut album Sundays that was co-written and co-produced with Toro y Moi's Chaz Bear in 2018. Today, Tanukichan returned to announce her sophomore follow-up GIZMO (named after the dog she adopted while writing the album) that's out March 3 via Company Records, and which sees Bear involved with the project once again. “A theme I always had floating around was escape,” van Loon explained about the forthcoming album, which nods to artists like 311, The Cranberries, and Tom Petty. “Escaping from myself, my problems, sadness, and cycles.”
In addition to the news, Tanukichan released the lead single "Don't Give Up." "This song is about feeling I haven’t done anything with my life, but also knowing that I’ve accomplished a lot and it’s only getting better," van Loon said. "I wrote the chorus years later when I was finishing a bunch of the songs. I didn’t want it to be depressing, even though that’s where it came from. It came from giving up but I wanted to keep going. I wanted it to mean something moving on from the negative and I came up with a ridiculously positive chorus."
