It's nearing two years since electronic duo Daft Punk officially announced their breakup. And although that news still seems hard to swallow, news of what one-half of the former duo has been up to has come to light. Today, Thomas Bangalter announced Mythologies, his first independent orchestral work. The project was initially commissioned by choreographer Angelin Preljocaj for the ballet of the same name, and premiered with the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine under the direction of Romain Dumas.

Bangalter's symphonic 90-minute score tracks back to the fall of 2019 when Preljocaj asked Bangalter to create a new work honoring years of collaboration with Opéra National de Bordeaux. Per a press release, the piece is broken into 23 scenes, written for 10 dancers from the Opéra’s ballet company, 10 others from Preljocaj’s own company, and the house’s resident orchestra. Mythologies, which is out April 9 via Erato/Warner Classics, "[embraces] the ancient and modern myths that reflect and shape us."
