Last week, the world for fans of The Daily Show was turned upside down when Comedy Central announced Jon Stewart‘s replacement Trevor Noah, and things went sideways again when it turned out that Noah had some pretty offensive skeletons in his Twitter closet. While the Internet weighed in on the newly appointed ruler of the fake news cable program last week, Stewart himself took a couple of minutes to address the controversy over his heir last night.
Stewart put the “large kerfuffle” back into perspective reminding loyal viewers that he isn’t an infallible individual and continues to earn and lose the audience’s respect. He does caution viewers to give Noah a chance, “I do hope that you give him an opportunity to earn that trust and respect.” Stewart went on to say that for the first time in almost seventeen years, he will actually record and watch The Daily Show.
