Reigning ethereal-pop queen Caroline Polachek is releasing her new album Desire, I Want to Turn Into You, the follow-up to 2019's Pang, on February 14—a fitting day for an album dedicated to massive feelings. We've heard the singles "Bunny Is a Rider," "Sunset," "Billions," and "Welcome to My Island." Today, we get another glimpse of the album with the fifth single, "Blood and Butter." Polachek also announced the tracklist for her upcoming project, which reveals that one song called "Fly to You" features Grimes and Dido.
"Blood and Butter" was co-produced by Polachek and Danny L. Harle and features Scottish bagpipes by Brìghde Chaimbeul. It's the latest showcase of Polachek exploring sensualities and sensations like an astronaut discovering a new planet, her kaleidoscopic pop a tool to comb across uncharted landmasses like an eager cartographer. "Let me dive through your facе / To the sweetest kind of pain," she sings, enthralled, on one verse. "Call you up, nothin' to say / No, I don't need no entertaining / When the world is a bed / Give me green and ribbon red." Later, Chaimbeul's bagpipe grows like ravenous greenery around jubilant acoustic strums and art-rock percussion.
