While summer may feel distant at the moment, the Hollywood Bowl is promising that brighter days are ahead with the reveal of their summer lineup today, featuring a massive slate of diverse artists spanning generations. Among the most exciting evenings planned in the coming months are nights with indie-folk staples My Morning Jacket and Fleet Foxes, psych-rock giants King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, indie-pop giants Maggie Rogers and Alvvays, producer Floating Points with saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings, and genre-defying acts Portugal. The Man, Chicano Batman, and Say She She, while iconic artists including The Beach Boys, Sparks (with They Might Be Giants), and Janet Jackson (with Ludacris) are obviously also notable draws.
Elsewhere on the lineup—spanning June through September—are Jill Scott, Gladys Knight, Culture Club, Air Supply and Michael Bolton, Kool & the Gang and Village People, Cafe Tacvba, and a birthday tribute to Quincy Jones, as well as prodigies Jacob Collier and Louis Tomlinson. June will also see the Bowl roll out their annual Playboy Jazz Festival, with this year’s co-curators Kamasi Washington and Herbie Hancock bringing in Samara Joy, Leon Bridges, Digable Planets, Big Freedia, and more. Additionally, for the film and theater crowd, the LA Phil will be performing music from 2001: A Space Odyssey and Return of the Jedi, hosting John Williams and Miyazaki collaborator Joe Hishaishi, and celebrating the work of Stephen Sondheim.
