Arlo Parks is releasing her second album My Soft Machine on Mary 26 via Transgressive. We got that news back in January with the lead single "Weightless," and today Parks dropped another track called "Impurities." If you're in the mood to feel like floating on a cloud, this is the tune for you! The production is a collaboration between Parks, Romil Hemnani from Brockhampton, and Carter Lang (best known for this work with SZA). It's vibey, but still packed with Parks' compassionate poetry. "This is a song about community," Parks explained, "being around people who make you feel like your inner ugliness and failures and mistakes don’t matter, who lift you up and make you laugh, who make you feel good and clean."
She added about the video that accompanies the track: “I really wanted to convey this atmospheric oscillation between solitude and companionship—I wanted to show how being around your people really does feel like coming home. When I was writing this song I had been thinking about Gus Van Sant a lot and how he captures people in all their fragility and beauty and ugliness—[director Jak Payne] was instrumental in creating/protecting that sense of softness.”
