As we continue to wait ever-so-patiently for that new Grimes LP, the void left in the market for wistful synth-pop has been gleefully kept filled by various up-and-comers in the scene, such as Lorely Rodriguez, who goes by the moniker Empress Of.
Following the well-received debut EP Systems, Rodriguez released a one-off track “Realize You,” and then proceeded to retreat to the Valle de Bravo village in Mexico to work on the the songs that would make up her first full-length.
The results of that trip will be released this summer on an as-of-yet untitled LP, but first off is the new single “Water Water,” a lush, deceptively upbeat dance track written on New Year’s Eve alongside a lake, fireworks at her side.
Empress Of’s full-length debut will be out this summer on Terrible Records.
You can catch Empress Of on tour starting this spring, including a few shows supporting Jamie xx and Florence + The Machine.
