Last year Parker Gispert returned with his second solo album, Golden Years, which saw the Whigs vocalist pivoting back to full-rock-band mode after his 2018 debut Sunlight Tonight took a more traditional solo-record approach of acoustic songwriting. “I’m a child of the ’90s,” he told us back when the LP was released, “and I think there’s a good bit of grunge and ’90s indie rock in the mix, as well as classic rock influences like Loaded by The Velvet Underground, Armed Forces by Elvis Costello, or Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones—all of which I was listening to a lot while writing the album.”

Contrary to that rock-focused direction he took, for his “Neighborhoods” session he recently filmed outside of his label New West Records’ offices in Athens, Georgia, Gispert’s performances of album cuts “You and I Forever” and Golden Years’s title track suggest what the record may have sounded like had he continued to approach his solo career as an acoustic endeavor. Check out the two-song set below.
