Today, Jessy Lanza released her first single of 2023, which also happens to be the first song she's written and produced since moving to LA. On "Don't Leave Me Now," a tinkering beat radiates alongside Lanza's iridescent vocals as she pleads during the chorus: "Don't leave me." The single came to be after nearly being hit by a car in her new city, which triggered an agoraphobia that she's dealt with on and off since she was young.
The single comes with a comically bizarre video shot in LA. At one point, Lanza floats on high in a cherry picker lift. Later, a man with a macro lens camera follows her around the city's sunlit streets until she ultimately turns the camera back on him. Although the unexpected series of events is playfully composed, "Don't Leave Me Now" hides an alarming underbelly.
