The journey has been a long one for Mereki. Recorded over the past seven years in three different continents, the Australian singer just unveiled her debut solo album Death of a Cloud last week. The record was released via her own label BunBun Records through a new partnership with BMG.
“I learned so much about me and about life and about who I want to be in it,” she revealed about the process of making the album. "This record means freedom from the past, it means letting go of pain and trauma and becoming one with the light within. This record means growth and healing. This record means fun and playfulness and mischief.”
Now based in the UK, Mereki's career began to blossom after moving to Echo Park in Los Angeles in the mid-2010s, as she started working with an impressive list of producers, writers, and musicians. She scored writing credits with Phantogram and A-Trak, collaborated on a song with fellow Australian Kylie Minogue, and performed as a lead vocalist on tours with electronic artists Flight Facilities and Goldroom, among other endeavors.
The new album arrived with a music video directed by longtime collaborator Lizzy Born, which you can watch below.
