Since their 2018 debut album hej!, producer felicita has routinely dropped enigmatic, pulsing singles. One of those highlights from last year was the Kero Kero Bonito–featuring "Cluck," which literally featured some excited clucking sounds and the whispered lyrics "I'm a chicken." Following the recent "Riff Raff," felicita has returned with another dizzying track which sees them reuniting with past collaborator Caroline Polachek for "Spalarkle (Alys)."
The accompanying visual directed by Umi Ishihara is a vibrant clusterfuck. Blurred images of winding heads and faceless guitar-shredders are washed in highly saturated colors. In one still scene, felicita sits on a carousal horse in striking mime makeup, eyes widening as the room starts to spin. "Spalarkle (Alys)" is an eerie, child-like ride—a matrix of video game synths and persistent slithering percussion. It's hard to look away and easy to leave on repeat.
