Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone—who have previously appeared in Gangster Squad and Crazy, Stupid, Love together—are in talks to star in the upcoming musical from Whiplash director Damien Chazelle entitled La La Land. Deadline reports that Chazelle originally intended to have Emma Watson and Whiplash lead Miles Teller star in the film, but Teller has since moved on, and Watson left the project to join Disney’s live action Beauty and the Beast.
La La Land, which is being billed as an old-fashioned musical set in contemporary Los Angeles, centers on a love story between a jazz pianist and an aspiring actress.
