The name of Depeche Mode's fifteenth studio album and current tour, Memento Mori, translates to "remember we must die" in Latin. It's a fitting title, considering it's their first tour and album since the passing of founding member Andrew Fletcher. But more than anything, the tour has proven to be a celebration of the band's profound legacy as well as our brief time here on Earth.
Dave Gahan and Martin Gore touched down for their first New York stop of the Memento Mori world tour at Madison Square Garden this past Friday night (they're returning for more NY dates on a later leg of the tour) with a triumphant 23-song performance. The career-spanning set was sprinkled with new songs, while also digging as far back as "Just Can't Get Enough" and "Everything Counts," along with a moving dedication of "World in My Eyes" to Fletcher. Gahan was all over the stage dancing throughout it all, with the enraptured crowd often finishing songs for him.
